OUTFIT DETAILS: Top: SPLASH - CENTERPOINT Culottes: SPLASH - CENTERPOINT Heels: STEVE MADDEN Watch: MICHAEL KORS Bells, trumpets, frills, ruffles, knots, shoulder cut-outs... The focus has shifted onto statement sleeves right now. I know, I was surprised too.
The last time ruffled bell sleeves were this big (pun intended) was probably in the 70s, exuding super bohemian vibes. Except back then they were done with prints, which was a bit too much for me. ( Click here to see an extreme example of what I'm talking about.) But they've come back bigger & better! I like options the options now in one solid color constructed with a more structured fabric such as a starched cotton. ( For example this top from ZARA or this knotted option ) In fact, this trend might just be seeping into the hemlines on trousers! ( As seen on Man Repeller's Leandra Medine here. ) I stumbled upon the top I'm wearing 2 months ago in Splash at Centerpoint after shopping for some makeup essentials in the Lifestyle section nearby. I usually avoid buying tops from Centerpoint unless they are 100% cotton, as the fabric gets weird on you after a few washes. But I just couldn't resist snagging this top! I hadn't seen a top with statement sleeves anywhere else when I saw this & love that it has a cinched waist so you don't look like you're wearing a big sack with armholes. Proportions are very important when it comes to dressing right and looking polished!! Another thing I liked about this top was the super stretchy neckline. It's elasticated and it looks like a normal top unless you stretch it down and then you have an off-the-shoulder top! You know I love a piece that can be worn many different ways. I just hope the fabric lasts a while. I think it should be fine if I wash it on a delicate cycle & steam it. (Caring for your clothes is a must girlies! Prevent wastage.) I also found these cotton black culottes (& on sale for just 20sr!!). Also surprised how good they turned out to be when I tried them on. So this outfit just fell together.. it could be great as a weekend brunch outfit. Word of caution though: be careful not to go knocking things over tables with your sleeves, or worse, dipping them in food. I'm a klutz so I don't know about you but that's an important reminder for me! STYLING IDEAS: Pair it with bejeweled heels & clutch and glitzy chandelier earrings for a fancier evening look. I'd wear it with some white sneakers or strappy flats too for a more casual daytime outfit. P.S. Writing this, I just had an idea! Would you girls like me to do a one outfit, different ways feature?
